You’ve heard this before. You find someone talking about dog food, excited to hear real, honest reviews—only to realize it’s just another influencer pushing products they’re paid to promote. How can you trust what they’re saying? If that’s your thing, great! But that’s not what you’ll find here. This blog is all about real reviews from a real dog parent feeding three very real Chihuahuas—no paid promotions, just honest thoughts like the good old days.

The Chihuahuas:

Every day, I feed Chuck, Gus, and Ana—my three little taste-testers, all between 7-8 years old and in good health. Ana has some allergies (mostly environmental), so what they eat is a big deal. I want them to live long, healthy lives, and finding the best food for them is an obsession of mine . This means that I am very invested in finding the best food for them and let’s be real: I’ve tried a lot of dog food. Some have been hits, a few have been misses.

What this blog is about

Choosing the right dog food isn’t just about what’s on the front of the bag. There are so many factors—ingredients, manufacturing processes, company transparency (something I’m really passionate about—definitely a future blog post!), price, and of course, the ultimate deal-breaker: palatability.

I work on the outskirts of the vet and pet food industry (more on that in another post), so I see firsthand how often pet parents struggle to find a food their dog will actually eat. The Big Three Brands (a topic for another time) are notorious for this. I can’t count how many times I’ve brought home a highly-rated food—shredded duck in a thick, flavorful gravy—only for my dogs to sniff it and walk away like I just served them a brick. Really, guys!?

Why I’m Doing This

Some people ski. Some knit. Some play chess. I research and talk about dog food. We all have our things, and this is mine. If you’re equally obsessed with dogs and dog food, I’d love for you to join me on this journey. Who knows? Maybe we’ll build a small community of like-minded pet parents along the way.

One Last Thing

I won’t tell you what to feed your dog. I’m not a licensed nutritionist nor a vet. I might call out specific brands that didn’t work for me, but that’s just my experience. Every dog is different—just like every human. Some people can eat dairy, others can’t (it’s me, Im others). Same goes for dogs.

So be smart. Do the research. Do the work. Your pup will thank you.
